Will Nigerian government sucumb to international pressure on same sex marriage?

Best Blogger Tips
It is no more a story that the Nigerian government is facing pressure from the international community on the recently passed bill to outlaw gay marriage in Nigeria.
Nigerian government recently voted for 14 years jail term for gay marriage. This will involve 10 years in prison for anyone who directly or indirectly makes public show of same-sex amorous relationships, 10 years for aiding same-sex unions. This has however raised a lot of issues both locally and internationally. While in the local context, people believe it is not morally right based on the Nigeria socio-cultural environment. Additionally, one funny comments from Nigeria's first lady states that; "same sexing is an abomination, it is not in Africa for man to be climbing man and woman climbing fellow woman, God created man to romance the woman, so i commend National assembly on this one "-channel news 4pm-Lmao. In contrast the international community believe it will violate fundamental human right. This draws the line between Nigerian government and the international world. As the great Nigerian senate president David Mark insist that same sex marriage is not accepted in Nigeria. He further stressed that marriages between same sex is alien to Nigerian cultural beliefs and tradition. In contrast, different human right groups has raised concern over the bill. Amnesty international spoke through the program director in Africa-Erwin van der Borgh that implementation of the bill in Nigeria will violate fundamental human right of many people. Arguing further that if passed, people will be victimised based on there sexual orientation. On the other side, Nigeria is a country with three main religious groups-Christianity, Islam and traditional religions. In the recent times there has always been crises between this various groups based on there individual belief. Also, it has been argued severally in the media by some religious group that Nigeria is adopting western ways of life. This group with the name Boko Haram meaning western education is a sin has made Nigerian government ungovernable for some time now. However, it is all over the media that western aids to Nigeria will be stopped if this bill is passed. That means that millions of people in Nigeria that benefit from western aids through different program in order to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS might be in trouble.  So where do we go from here? Do you think Nigerian government should have a change of mind? or what happens if western Aids are withdrawn?

  3. Nigeria is a country of various religious believes and the major population of the country strongly beleives in a particular way of life deeply rooted in each and every individual it will suffice to say same sex romance is not part of it, and if we think about it, life itself is in couple, and meant to be opposite attractions and no one can call a man n man or woman n woman romance a couple, looking at the from a natural point of view, nature or God (depending on ur believe) didn't intend same sex to cohabit or populate the world, a very good example is looking at animals if anyone can point out to me a particular specie of animal that mate with same sex, then same sex can be permitted, am not in anyway comparing humans to animal but evolutionary speaking we all decended from an animal family or whatever

  7. A country with all those resources yet we do not know how to take control because of our leaders greed. if our resources are managed right, things are done even 50% right the nation will be great. This will test us to see if a nation actually believe what it preaches or it will bow to the will of men.God made man and a woman.People who say they are gay came from Man and a woman not a man and man or woman and woman so if anyone says it is there human right that's fine with them.western countries have for gotten their culture and their origin.
